Pawnee, Rush counties report 0 COVID cases for the week

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported Wednesday that Kansas has had 930,148 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, resulting in 9,995 deaths statewide. As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, there were 1,963 new cases and 26 new deaths reported since Feb. 1.

In central Kansas, Rush and Pawnee counties had no new COVID-19 cases for the period starting Jan. 28 and ending Feb. 3. Barton, Rice, Russell and Stafford counties had a moderate weekly new case rate for that period, with "moderate" defined as 10-49 cases per 100,000 people. Four new cases in Ellsworth County placed its weekly rate in the “substantial” category of 50-99 cases per 100,000.

Throughout the state, 18 counties had a “high” rate – 100 or more cases per 100,000. Of note in western Kansas were the 87 new cases in Ford County (258.8 per 100,000) as well as high rates in Hodgeman, Meade, Seward, Haskall, Stevens and Morton counties.
