Two passengers were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries Wednesday morning following a two-vehicle crash on K-156 near Cheyenne Bottoms.

According to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir, shortly after 11:30 a.m., BCSO was notified of an injury crash on K-156 near the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. Investigation at the scene indicated James Bowman of Albert was driving a 2003 Pontiac Vibe and was making a right turn into the KWEC. The second vehicle, a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Librado Sandoval of Lewis, attempted to pass Bowman’s vehicle on the right. Both vehicles were eastbound at the time of the collision.

Sandoval’s vehicle struck Bowman’s vehicle, sending it into the traffic way. Sandoval’s vehicle continued in a northeasterly direction, coming to rest in the east ditch. Two passengers in Sandoval’s vehicle were transported to The University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus with non-life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were believed to be unharmed.

BCSO was assisted at the scene by the Claflin Fire Department and EMS service.
