The Ellinwood Eagles (47-0) finish an unbeaten season as the 2A state champions.

DODGE CITY — Ellinwood's volleyball team completed a dream season by beating Valley Heights 25-16, 25-21 to capture the school's first Class 2A state championship with a perfect 47-0 record.

The Eagles earned a distinction of being the lone unbeaten volleyball team in the state.

The Eagles' powerful attack overpowered Valley Heights in the championship match following a semifinal victory 25-10, 25-14 over Jefferson North.

Ellinwood volleyball coach Greg Maxwell crafted a perfectly balanced team featuring hitters, setters and defensive specialists. Maxwell believed the girls learned hard lessons during a hard-fought semifinal loss after passing through pool play.
