Macksville, Pawnee Heights lose playoff games

RAWLINS COUNTY 46, MACKSVILLE 0

MACKSVILLE – Atwood Rawlins County’s Drew Withington returned the opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown to ignite a 46-0 rout of unbeaten Macksville in the Eight-Man 1 football playoffs. The kickoff stopped at the 1-yard line when Withington picked up the football and sprinted up the field.

The Mustangs lost 13 yards on their first drive. The Buffaloes moved 10 yards on Withington’s second touchdown. Withington completed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Kenneth Micek on fourth-and-15.

Withington scored three touchdowns and rushed for 62 yards. Jayden Reed scored on a 13-yard run and rushed for 134 yards. Ryan Sramek gained 78 yards and scored on a 12-yard run. The Buffaloes (8-2) rushed for 275 yards.

The run-oriented Buffaloes were perfectly suited behind a powerful offensive line on a wet, muddy field. Macksville's Lance Lickiss contributed five tackles and six assists.

"Props to Rawlins County – they executed" said Macksville coach Kyle Bright. "The weather was a perfect storm. We aren't built for that weather and they were."

Macksville (9-1) lost 31 yards rushing on the wet, muddy field without injured back Hector Gomez. Rawlins County’s defense blitzed Mustang quarterback Ryan Kuckelman, who lost 25 yards rushing. The Buffaloes had 20 tackles for lost yardage. Josh Popp have five tackles for loss and Brandon Chvatal had four tackles for loss.

WAVERLY 52, PAWNEE HEIGHTS 18

WAVERLY – Pawnee Heights hung tough before unbeaten Waverly roared to a 58-19 victory over the Tigers in the 6-man football playoffs. The Tigers (4-6) trailed 19-12 at halftime, but were outscored 33-6 in the second half. The Tigers played the final few games with seven healthy players.

Tiger Dakota Ryan scored on a dazzling 80-yard interception return. Quarterback Davin Hamby scored on a 20-yard run. Jimmy Gardner scored on a 75-yard run. Hamby passed for 78 yards and rushed for 57 yards. Jimmy Gardner rushed for 82 yards and had 33 yards receiving.

“I was proud of our boys tonight,” said Pawnee Heights coach Jim Gardner. “We took seven kids from a town of 110 and made a nice run in the playoffs. We’re a young team that returns five starters. The boys are committed to putting Pawnee Heights back on the map as a 6-man state football contender.”

Gardner contributed 10 tackles and four assists. Dakota Ryan had six tackles and seven assists.

Tescott (9-1) plays at Waverly (9-0) in Friday’s 6-man quarterfinals.
