Now that the behavioral-health staff at Heart of Kansas Family Health Care has moved to a new location, all providers at the non-profit entity have more space to better serve their patients and clients.
All the behavioral-health providers recently relocated to the remodeled Heart of Kansas annex building, 1910 18th, which is just south of the main clinic at 1905 19th.
“We have been growing steadily for a number of years,” said Brett Middleton, chief executive officer. “There was simply not enough room in the main building to house both our behavioral-health and medical-health services.
“We were really squeezed into the main building. Now everyone has more space, which our patients, clients and staff appreciate.”
Previously, Heart of Kansas leased a portion of the annex building that housed only those who work on the administrative side of things.
“However, last summer we purchased the annex building and immediately started making plans for the behavioral-health relocation,” Middleton recalled. “There is a real need for these services in central Kansas and we want to better accommodate our clients.”
Behavioral-health services include: individual, group, family and substance-use therapies. Providers also are available for marriage, trauma and grief counseling.
“These professionals run the whole gamut of behavioral-health therapies,” Middleton said, noting they are accepting new clients. “We recognize the need and are here to provide these much-needed services.”
Providers include Julie Belt, psychiatric nurse practitioner, who serves patients mainly in Great Bend. She also travels to Heart of Kansas clinics in Larned and Stafford.
Carie Brown, clinical therapist and social worker, is the director of behavioral health and director of operations.
Other therapists/social workers are LeAnn Petersilie, Deanna Gray and Jessie Sloan. A registered nurse and certified nurse’s aide are available to support the staff.
“Current patients and newcomers can be assured they will receive professional, compassionate care and treatment from these great providers,” Middleton said. “This team is second to none.”
Heart of Kansas Family Health Care is a Federally Qualified Health Center, which allows it to be a safety net for patients who are uninsured or underinsured. Its professional providers also welcome those with insurance at the Great Bend, Larned and Stafford locations. Heart of Kansas is open to everyone.
