Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! It’s almost time for our summer kick-off event on Friday, May 30, from 5:30-7 p.m! Come and play games on the lawn and see live alpacas from Heartland Farms. Learn about these amazing animals from the experts, get close enough to pet an alpaca, and see some examples of the amazing things you can make with their fleece and view a demonstration of how it is spun into yarn. This year our summer theme is art, so when you’re done outside, make sure you stop in at our painting station to help us “Color Our World” by creating a mini masterpiece to be displayed at our end-of-summer Gallery Gala. Last but not least, get registered for our art-themed summer reading program for all ages and reading formats. You can track your minutes spent reading this June and July for the chance to win some fabulous prizes! The more you read, the better your chances are of bagging some spectacular summer swag.
After the kickoff, our summer programming really gets going next Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with the return of Story Time. For those a bit too old for Story Time but not old enough to attend teen events, we also have Tween Scene Studio at 10:30 a.m. For our first Tween Scene this summer, tweens going into grades 3-5 can sample our Tween Café event. Later that day at 3:30. p.m it’s the teens’ turn for their Teen Café. During both events we are hosting an open mic, where attendees can perform a song, poem, or stand-up routine. Bring a copy of your act for pre-approval.
Dan Dan the Magic Man will make an appearance at our first Wonder-Filled Wednesday. Join us at 10:30 a.m. to see Dan Dan dazzle and amaze patrons of all ages with some laughs and some truly awe-inspiring magic.
