Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Summer is officially here at the Great Bend Public Library, which means our summer reading program and all of our summer events are in full swing. If you weren’t able to make it to our kick-off event, you can still register for our reading program by stopping by and getting a bag for your age group. All you have to do is read all summer long, and you will be entered in for the chance to win some really fabulous prizes at the end of summer. Adults and teens are competing for a variety of amazing prizes, while children will be competing for a chance to come to an exclusive end-of-summer party where they will get to tie-dye special teddy bears, which they then get to take home.

This Friday, June 6th, is our first Casual Game Friday of the summer, starting at 3:15 p.m. This time we will be playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Switch. Choose your fighter from a roster of some of gaming’s biggest characters and prepare to face off against other teens in friendly battles. After that, we will have our first Adult’s Night Out Movie. This month we are showing a three-time Oscar-nominated animated film about an intelligent robot stranded on an uninhabited island after a shipwreck. To survive the harsh surroundings, she bonds with the native animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose.

Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., it’s Story Time. For those a bit too old for Story Time but not old enough to attend teen events, we also have Tween Scene Studio at 10:30 a.m. This time, tweens going into grades 3-5 will get to play board games in the Teen Spot. At 11 a.m., we have Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m. followed by Writing Club at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday, jam out with Jammin’ Randy as he returns to the Great Bend Public Library to share his award-winning music for children of all ages, as part of our Wonder-filled Wednesdays this summer at 10:30 a.m.

Then Thursday, June 12, after Genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m., check out our Teen Summer Flick at 3:30 p.m. “Forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, former baseball player Ray Waller moves into a new house with his wife and two children. He hopes that the backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for himself. However, a dark secret from the home’s past soon unleashes a malevolent force that drags the family into the depths of inescapable terror.” -Google. Then don’t miss out on Adult Craft Night at 6 p.m. Ever wanted to check out the latest craze sweeping the nation? Now’s your chance to create your own beautifully painted book edges to add some flair to your favorite novel.
