April is a month of vibrant creativity at the Ellinwood School/Community Library, where the walls come alive with the imagination and skill of our local student artists. The annual art shows - featuring work from Ellinwood High School (EHS) and the Central Prairie League (CPL) - have transformed the library into a temporary art gallery celebrating youth expression.
The EHS Art Show displayed by art instructor Greg Maxwell, offered a glimpse into the diverse skills being cultivated in the school’s art program. These pictures show the art pieces that were on display. We’re proud to provide a space that highlights the creativity of our students and brings their work into the heart of the community.
To thank the student artists who contributed to the library display, the library will be hosting a special art reception in May. This event will recognize their hard work and allow students to gather and celebrate their creative achievements.
This week, the library is proud to showcase the CPL Art Show. The 10 schools in our league will be sharing their best work with our community. Judging will take place on Friday, and the show will remain open for parents and the public through April 30.
In addition to the exhibit, a dynamic art workshop day for CPL art students will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at Ellinwood High School. The day will kick off with Student Choice Viewing and Voting. Breakout sessions will include:
• Ceramics Wheel Thrown Demonstration by Mark Freeman
• Pour and Explore Painting by Becca Maxwell
• Candle Pouring Demonstration and Participation in Ceramic Vessels by Scott and Jennifer Anderson of Kansas Earth and Sky Candle Company
• Photography in Ellinwood Underground Tunnel Tours led by Rick Casagrande
The workshop will conclude with an Awards Assembly in the EHS Auditorium. During this assembly, a brief judge’s critique and remarks will be given for the Best of Show winners and selected League Champions. All other award winners in each category will also be recognized on stage.
As April comes to a close, the library extends its thanks to the art teachers, students, and community members who helped make this month’s exhibits a success. Be sure to stop by and celebrate the power of student art!
