Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library, and happy December! Today (Dec. 4), after Genealogy Corner at 11 a.m., join us for VolunTeens, where we put the “unity” in “community!” Give back by volunteering at the library and earn some Library Loot in the process. Help us show our gratitude for our local sponsors by surprising them with bright boxes of fun! Starting at 4 p.m., help us assemble our boxes of sunshine to hand out to the winners of the sponsor drawing. Then at 6 p.m. warm up with some tasty holiday drinks with our resident chef Lisa, who will show us how to wow family and friends with tasty beverages this holiday season.

Last but not least, at 7 p.m. it’s time for Holiday Trivia at Dry Lake. Have fun celebrating the holidays with us and win some fabulous prizes and free drinks while you do it; it’s a win-win!

As a reminder, we will be closed on Friday during regular business hours for a staff in-service. We will, however, be open that evening for the Adults’ Night Out Movie. Film enthusiasts ages 18 and up are welcome to join us at 7 p.m. for a heartwarming holiday tale. Watch as a selfish postman and a reclusive toymaker form an unlikely friendship, delivering joy to a cold, dark town that desperately needs it. This is a wholesome story that shows that a small act of kindness can grow and change even the hearts of mortal enemies and bring a community together. Popcorn and seating are available starting at 6:45 p.m. (The north doors will be open to allow entrance until 7:15 p.m.)

On Saturday from 12:30-4:45 p.m., teens grades 6-12 can step into our festive D&D Winter Wonderland One-Shot session, a one-and-done fantasy holiday adventure. While our table is full, any teens are welcome to come watch as part of the audience (no registration required).

Next week bring your smart device-related questions to Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m. That evening from 5:30-7 p.m., we invite you to find your local writing community at the Great Bend Public Library. Tweens, teens, and adults (grade 3 and up) from the Barton County area are welcome to join us for our monthly meetings to share and work on their craft.

Next Thursday, Dec. 11, crafters 18 and up can join us for our Adult Craft at 6 p.m. This month, create beautiful Coffee Filter Angels to use as winter decor or as the perfect holiday gift. Spots are first-come, first-served, as supplies are limited.

To see what else we are up to at the library, stop by and grab our winter newsletter so you can stay up to date on all the goings-on.
