The backstage comic farce which brought Carol Burnett back to Broadway over 25 years ago will be the next production in the Sterling College Theater season. Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo will take the Culbertson Auditorium stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Nov. 8, 9 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10

Set in 1953, Moon Over Buffalo follows George and Charlotte Hay, a married couple of fading Broadway stage actors who are performing in repertory in Buffalo, New York. Their company is struggling, and their careers seem to be in rapid decline — until they learn that famed Hollywood director Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee performance.

Things quickly spiral out of control as a series of comic mishaps threaten to derail the performance. From mistaken identities to drunken actors and romantic misunderstandings, the play takes the audience on a wild ride behind the scenes of this eccentric theatre troupe. As the play builds to its turbulent climax, the actors struggle to pull together a show, while the leading couple hope for a final chance at Hollywood fame.

The production will feature Kurt Keegan, a junior from Burlington, leading as George Hay. In the Carol Burnett role as his co-star wife Charlotte Hay will be Kimberlie Skirvin, sophomore from Emporia. Playing the near deaf mother-in-law Ethel will be Mariana Inchauriga, sophomore from Hutchinson. Bailey Brewer, also a sophomore from Hutchinson will play the Hay’s daughter Rosalind.

Rosalind’s ex-boyfriend Paul will be played by Chandler Reiman, freshman from Kinsley. The TV weatherman, who is Rosalind’s current fiance Howard, will be freshman Nathan Griffin from Burlington. Sophomore Makenzy Carter from Wichita will be seen as Eileen the ingenue of the theatre troupe with Broc Harland, freshman from Ulysses as Richard the wealthy lawyer trying to woo Charlotte. Others in the cast include Anya Billings, senior from McPherson and Olivia Ivie, freshman from Sterling.

Directing the show will be Sterling College Theatre Technical Director Greg McGlynn, who is also designing the set for the show. Tickets for Moon Over Buffalo are $10 for adults and $5 for students and are currently available online at www.sterling.edu/arts. Tickets will also be available at the door before each performance.
