The Ellinwood School/Community Library is excited to host two special summer sessions open to the public as part of its Summer Reading Program. These engaging events are designed to entertain, educate, and inspire curiosity in children and families of all ages.


Kansas Wetlands Education Center – “Wetland Art Adventures!” 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at Ellinwood School/Community Library. All ages welcome.

Join Chomps, the friendly painted turtle mascot from the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, for a vibrant morning of nature-themed fun! Kids and families will explore the colorful world of Cheyenne Bottoms through storytelling, hands-on art projects, and encounters with live animals. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to blend science, art, and imagination!


PBS Share-a-Story Program – Read it. Watch it. Do it. 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, Ellinwood School/Community Library. Ages 3–6

The Smoky Hills PBS Share-a-Story program is back with its signature three-step experience designed especially for preschoolers and their families: Read it – Enjoy a story read aloud; Watch it – View a related PBS KIDS episode; Do it – Create a fun craft tied to the theme. Every child in attendance will receive a free book to take home!
