Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library, and Happy Kansas Day! Today we celebrate entering the Union as its 34th state in 1861. What better way to celebrate the State of Kansas’ history than finding out more about your own? Discover your roots in Kansas and beyond with Genealogy Thursday today at 11 a.m.

As the first month of the year comes to an end, we’d like to remind you that Winter Reading Bingo sheets are due this Saturday, Jan. 31. Join us from 1-2:30 p.m. for our Bookish Wrap Party. Enjoy tea, hot cocoa, and treats as we finish up winter reading! Sip a warm drink, share about the books you’ve read to keep the cold away this season, and turn in your bingo sheet for the chance to win some cozy prizes for children, teens, and adults (prizes will be drawn in February).

Want something to do at home? Stop by the library starting next Monday to pick up February’s Spice of the Month, featuring fun facts about and a recipe using poppy seeds, for all ages. While you’re here, go ahead and grab a Wrapped Heart Bookmark Take & Make. These to-go craft kits include everything you need to make seasonal, thread-wrapped clips perfect for keeping your place in your current read or for accenting a journal or scrapbook page! Supplies limited per age group (tweens, teens, and adults); first come, first served.

Our winter prize store will be open for a limited time for teens grades 6-12 starting Monday. Come in each week during February to spend Library Loot on cool stuff to take home!

Tuesday we have our usual lineup of Early Literacy Story Time at 10:30 a.m., followed by Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m. Later that afternoon, teens can come to the Teen Café for some Lunar New Year Fun. Get ready for the Year of the Horse with some festive goodies from 4-5:30 p.m.

Feb. 5 is the first Thursday of the month, which means it’s time for Delicious Dishes! Chefs of all experience levels are invited to come to the library at 6 p.m. to learn how to make (and maybe even sample) Mini Dutch Babies. This tiny twist on warm, oven-baked pancakes is a delightful treat for cold, winter days.

Don’t forget to sign up for these upcoming events:

Are you in your escape era? We still have spots open for our Taylor-inspired escape room next month on Galentine’s Day. Put your Taylor Swift knowledge to the test and see if you can escape before time runs out! Visit greatbendpl.info/escape to register today. For tweens, teens, and adults (grades 3 and older).

Looking for a short campaign to join? Players old and new can try out our new Tabletop Teens D&D Miniseries this semester, starting on Feb. 27. Visit greatbendpl.info/teens by Feb. 22 to register. Those who don’t get a spot as a player will be put on the waitlist. Any teens are welcome to come watch as part of the audience (no registration required)!

Compete to see who is the master of frosting! Teens have until Feb. 18 to visit the teen page on our website and register for Cupcake Wars on Feb. 24.
