St. Joseph School in Ellinwood hosted a Chamber Coffee on Wednesday during Catholic Schools Week.

The turnout was fantastic, said Ellinwood resident Becca Maxwell. “Mrs. Thomas introduced our faculty and staff, and Mrs. Clayton shared a glimpse into our rich history – celebrating 150 years of St. Joseph Parish and 140 years of our school. These milestones will be honored on March 22. This year also marks the 75th anniversary of the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City.”

Jennifer Klepper wrapped things up by sharing details about the school’s Valentine Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 14. Tickets are available through the school office or by contacting Klepper directly.

Special events during this week-long celebration of Catholic schools included themed dress-up days. Tuesday was “Movie Character Day.” The eighth-grade class in particular had an amazing lineup of characters, Maxwell said.

After Pastries with Parents on Tuesday, students in grades 4-8 showed off their spelling skills in the School Spelling Bee. The top three spellers from each class advanced to the final competition.

First place was won by Addilyn Joiner, seventh grade, and the runner-up was Asher Komarek, fourth grade. Both will represent the school at the Barton County Spelling Bee in February.
