On Monday at approximately 4:40 p.m., Great Bend Fire Department units were dispatched to a report of a possible structure fire in the 3100 block of Forest Ave. Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the eaves of a two-story detached garage that had been converted into living quarters. Facing heavy smoke, crews entered the residence, located and extinguished the fire, and conducted a search of the building. No one was home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Other responding agencies included the Great Bend Police Department, Wheatland Electric, Kansas Gas, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
