STAFFORD — We were glad to host the American Legion Auxiliary Legion meeting Monday, Oct. 7. For the fifth year, they have given the library books in memory of local veterans. “U.S. Army” and “Air Force Air Commandos” by Nick Gordon are the titles that were given this year in honor of local veterans who have died in 2023 and 2024. Thank you for this gift to the children of our community.

Monday mornings we are having Preschool Story Hour 10-11 a.m. “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” by Bill Martin Jr. will be our feature story with help from the kids in story telling and showing the characters with flannel graph. Climbing and playing will be the featured activity.
October 22 at 5:30, Parents as Teachers will join us for Kansas Reads to Preschoolers. We look forward to this fun time every year. The chosen book this year is “How Do You Hug a Porcupine/¿Cómo abrazas a un puercoespín?” written by Laurie Isop. The Stafford PAT teacher, Janet Reece, has also chosen some fun finger puppet books to encourage the love of reading in our little ones. It is never too early to read to a child.
Trunk or Treat is again being sponsored by Stafford County Hospital and Sandy and I will be joining in the fun evening. More details as they become available to us.
The Senior Center and the Library are partners in engaging a representative from SouthWest Kansas Area Agency on Aging at the library, Nov. 7, for Medicare Open enrollment. Save the date and call us for an appointment.
On Nov. 11 we will celebrate Veterans Day by having pictures of Stafford County Veterans scrolling on our television screen. Come join us to honor the veterans of our community.
I just finished a great book on the Kansas Library Card, “Between Sisters,” by Kristin Hannah. Two sisters, abandoned by their mother, then estranged as adults, re-learn how to love. Kristin Hannah is a prolific and spell-binding author and we have several of her books in the library. Be prepared for an all night read with a Kleenex box at hand. The bags under your eyes are worth it. Come check out her books at Nora’s Place!
