City approves paving plan, compensation study

Here’s a quick look at Monday’s Great Bend City Council meeting:

• Fire Department contracts were renewed to serve the townships of Liberty, Buffalo, Great Bend and South Bend.

• Due to scheduling conflicts, the city council will not meet again until April 6. The finance department was given authority to process and pay bills as necessary.

• During Rocky Mountain Race Week, Lakin Avenue with be closed from Main Street to Williams Street on June 5, from 4-8 p.m., so the public can view the race cars that will be staged on both sides of the street.

• Great Bend Economic Development Executive Director Jason Kuilan presented his monthly report.

• The Pavement Management Plan that was presented in a Feb. 17 work session was approved. It was prepared by JEO Consulting Group and outlines three phases of street repairs.

• The council also approved a contract with JEO for the Airport Lift Station Rehabilitation Project. The $111,600 engineering fee will be included in an $800,000 SRF (State Revolving Fund) loan. Approximately $480,000 of the loan is eligible for forgiveness.

• The council approved hiring Evergreen Solutions LLC to conduct a compensation study for city wages. Evergreen submitted the low bid for $32,000.
