It was an impressive season for the Ellinwood High School girls’ volleyball team, the Barton County Commission noted as it officially recognized the squad Tuesday morning, proclaiming Nov. 4, 2025, as Ellinwood High School Volleyball Day in honor of their undefeated run to the Kansas Class 2A State Championship.
The Lady Eagles finished the 2025 season with a perfect 47-0 record, culminating in the state title earned Saturday in Dodge City. The commission adopted a proclamation highlighting the team’s achievement and the role high school sports play in developing students.
“There have been many, many years of dedication and heartbreak, and finally triumph,” said Commission Chairperson Tricia Schlessiger. “We are very proud of you.”
The adopted proclamation honored the entire team, including players Lexi Thomas, Bennett Jacobs, Reagan Stickney, Regan Widener, McKena Parker, Kyndal Moore, Mallory Batchman, Alyvia Batchman, Blayre Moore, Kenna Stickney, Avery Panning, Reece Stickney, Mette Maxwell, Addie Stickney, Paisley Knop, Reagan Wirtz, Ayla Ritchie, Brynn Widener and Jaizley Andrasek.
Coach Greg Maxwell and assistant coaches Cami Thomas and Becca Maxwell were also commended for their leadership of the team.
Record-breaking season
The proclamation noted the team’s dominant statistical performance throughout the season, citing Max Prep Sports calculations that included:
• 1,297 average kills
• 339 ace serves
• 1,608 serve points
• 155 total blocks (47 solo, 215 assisted)
• 1,456 digs
• 1,204 assists
• 1,013 serves received
The Proclamation emphasized that high school athletics improve academic performance, build essential life skills such as teamwork and discipline, and foster a strong sense of community and pride.
“The Lady Eagles are hereby honored collectively and individually for their team achievements and for the pride that they have brought to Central Kansas,” the proclamation read. The Commission recognized the student athletes, their families and the USD 355 School District.
