The Golden Belt Community Concert Association will open its 2021-2022 season with its first-ever outdoor concert set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, in the Moses Memorial Band Shell, south of the courthouse in Jack Kilby Square, featuring the Fabulous Equinox All-Stars. The 7 p.m. time is a change from the usual 7:30 p.m. start time.

GBCCA is opening this concert to the public as a way of showing what the association has to offer. Although the band shell has several rows of benches and picnic tables providing limited seating, those attending should bring lawn chairs and/or blankets to make sure they will have a seat. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium, located at Lakin and Stone.

Anyone who is not a member and wishes to purchase a season membership, including the five remaining concerts, may do so at the September concert. Memberships are $50 per adult, $10 for any full-time enrolled student, $110 for a Family Membership (two adults and all dependent children living in the same household), and $110 for a Grandparent Package (two adults and up to four minor grandchildren).

The Fabulous Equinox All-Stars are a seven-piece little big band based in Savannah, Ga., led by Jeremy Davis (saxophone) and Clay Johnson (vocals and trombone), who have been friends since their boyhood in New Orleans. They bring their rich friendship and Southern charm to the stage with standard big band swing music blended with favorite pop tunes.

A sampling of their music would include songs such as “I Only Have Eyes for You,” “Come Fly With Me,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” and “That Old Black Magic,” with hits from Frank Sinatra to Motown, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and more.

The GBCCA’s 2021-2022 season will continue with The Folk Legacy Trio, Oct. 12; Veritas, Nov. 1; Classic Nashville Roadshow, Feb. 28, 2022; Melissa Manchester, April 7, 2022; and “Crocodile Rockin’,” an Elton John tribute by Jim Witter, May 3, 2022.
