HAYS — Fort Hays State Athletics will welcome seven new inductees into the Tiger Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, Nov. 1. The inductees going into the Hall of Fame this year include David Meter (Football, 1974-77).
The induction ceremony will take place the morning of Saturday, Nov. 1 inside the Memorial Union on the campus of Fort Hays State University. Registration for the invitation only event begins at 8 a.m. and the ceremony begins at 9 a.m. The new Hall of Fame class will then be recognized publicly at halftime of the Fort Hays State vs. Central Missouri football game, which begins at 1 p.m. at Lewis Field Stadium.
David Meter - Football (1974-77)
A native of Gering, Neb., David Meter competed for the Fort Hays State football team from 1974-1977. He was an AP Little All-America selection as a wide receiver in 1976. He recorded 42 catches for 678 yards and a team-leading eight touchdowns that season, averaging 16.1 yards per catch to help helping Fort Hays State to a Co-CSIC Championship. He was twice an All-CSIC and All-District First Team selection as a receiver (1976, 1977). As a senior, his numbers were even better at 44 receptions for 760 yards with three touchdowns, averaging 17.3 yards per catch. He finished his career with 90 receptions for 1,502 yards, while also rushing for 194 yards and scoring 14 touchdowns overall.
