Members of the Great Bend High School Orchestra are raising money for a trip to New York City in May. Orchestra members will sponsor a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, in the basement of Trinity Lutheran Church, 2701 24th St.
Sponsors said this trip to NYC will allow students to experience the life of a performer and learn there are multiple ways to be involved in the arts as a profession. They will visit Radio City Music Hall, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, and attend a performance of The New York Philharmonic and a performance on Broadway. Other sites on the itinerary are the American Museum of Natural History, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, and more.
“This trip can show our students several different options if they decide to go down this path,” sponsors said. “This trip will also open their eyes to many different arts communities in a large city setting. Most of our students may never experience a professional concert; we want to give them that opportunity. All of the activities will give students a better understanding of the world around them.
“We have fundraised throughout the year to be able to go on this trip and we are all very excited!” Anyone who would like to support these students and their endeavors is invited to stop by the garage sale on March 22.
