The public is invited to attend a candlelight remembrance for Charlie Kirk from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, in Jack Kilby Square. Lynn Bolding, Great Bend, said she organized the event to honor Kirk, the political activist, entrepreneur, and media personality who was assassinated on Sept. 10. The flyer she created for the event describes Kirk as “a voice raised boldly for faith, family and freedom.”

For Bolding, the program isn’t about politics.

“It was basically based on faith,” she said. “He was a man of faith.”

Bolding will speak and her husband Joshua will lead a prayer. Participants are encouraged to wear a red shirt in honor of Kirk.

According to his obituary, Kirk was a conservative activist who cofounded Turning Point USA and built a large national following among right-leaning students and voters. He died after being shot while speaking to a crowd at Utah Valley University in Orem Utah. He was 31. The flyer for the local event adds, “May his legacy inspire us to walk courageously, love unashamedly, and carry forward the torch he held so high.”
