In November of 2024, the Macksville City Library announced thankfulness for receiving a $15,000 grant from the South Central Community Foundation. SCCF is a regional foundation that manages charitable funds for seven counties in south central Kansas.  Our “Libraries Unite” project allowed the libraries in Macksville, St. John and Stafford to divide the grant equally, each utilizing $5,000 to improve programming, accessibility and outreach to patrons across Stafford county (and beyond). At Macksville, we have finally spent all of our grant funds in some very impactful ways!

First off, we tackled the bare walls in our new addition and purchased four pieces of slat wall, plus accessories. We are so thankful to the City Employees, Troy and Mason, plus volunteer, Robb, for the installation. The new display area served us well for our 90th Anniversary Celebration in May, and it has been a focal point for our Summer Reading Program all summer long.

Next, to combat a lack of storage options, we purchased a large, mobile storage cart for arts and crafts materials. The cart came in very handy for our summer of Coloring Our World craft supplies, and it will serve us well year round.

Finally, the remainder of the $5,000 has been used to help fund our Summer Reading Program, one of the most important outreach programs we host each year. At this time, the Story Times are over for grades 6 and under, but the Adult & Young Adult readers have until July 30th to turn in reading logs and be in the prize drawing. Funds from the SCCF grant were used for a variety of books, supplies and incentives for the library and Summer Reading participants. This grant made a huge impact in our library, and we’re thankful that two of our neighboring libraries reaped the benefits, as well.

One project that you can view (and still participate in) through Aug. 6th is our First Ever Tiny Art Show. Our talented artists have created mini masterpieces with some very unique titles. Drop by the library to pick up a tiny canvas (while supplies last) to create your own tiny art.
