At Monday night’s USD 428 Board of Education meeting, Food Service Director Kristy Alvord delivered her Director’s Report, spotlighting the district’s continued commitment to serving high-quality, made-from-scratch meals rooted in local partnerships.
Alvord shared how the Food Service team incorporates locally sourced ingredients across the district’s menus — from Golden Belt Beef and Hudson Cream flour to Highland Dairy milk — ensuring that students not only enjoy nutritious, flavorful meals but also benefit from a connection to local producers and Kansas agriculture.
“Our kitchen staff takes great pride in the meals they prepare,” Alvord said. “When we can bring in local ingredients, it elevates the quality of what we serve and reinforces our support for the community. It’s a win for our students and a win for local businesses.”
During her report, Alvord also noted that USD 428 Food Service is currently seeking three or four new team members. Positions offer family-friendly hours, a team-centered work environment, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ daily lives.
“We’re looking for dependable, positive individuals who want to be part of something bigger,” Alvord added. “Our team is the heart of every school day, and we welcome anyone interested in joining us.”
