PAWNEE ROCK — A Missouri man was injured in a two-vehicle crash west of Pawnee Rock early Tuesday afternoon.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Jonathan D, Bennett, 42, Oak Grove., Mo. was westbound on U.S. 56 through Pawnee Rock driving a 2012 Toyota Prius, when he slowed to turn left onto SW 70 Road west of town. Meanwhile, Layton M. Crosby, 21, Larned, was driving a 2005 Peterbilt semi with a 2014 Timpte trailer westbound, and attempted to pass the slowing Bennett vehicle. The Bennett vehicle then collided with the semi as it was making the turn, coming to rest facing west in the eastbound traffic lane. The semi continued west and stopped on the north shoulder of the westbound traffic lane.

Bennett was transported to Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned with suspected minor injury. Crosby was uninjured in the crash. Sheriff’s officers from both Barton County and Pawnee County, along with the Kansas Highway Patrol, responded to the scene and also conducted traffic control as the crash was being investigated.

The KHP reported that both drivers were wearing safety restraints at the time of the crash.
