The Barton County Commission will be asked to sign letters of support for the purchase of the Colt revolver used by Barton County’s first sheriff and grant funding for improvements on Fifteenth Street in Hoisington. These and other items are on the agenda for the meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, in Suite 106 at the Barton County Courthouse. The meeting will also be live-streamed at https://bit.ly/4a12hoK.
Colt revolver
On Feb. 17, Sheriff Brian Bellendir reported to the Commission that the Colt revolver used by Sheriff George N. Moses may be available for purchase. It is currently owned by the great-granddaughter of Sheriff Moses. It is suggested that private funding be used for the purchase and that the gun be donated to Barton County to provide for its perpetual care. Sheriff Bellendir will ask that the commission consider providing a Letter of Support for his purchase of the Civil War-era revolver.
Street improvements
The City of Hoisington seeks grant funding for infrastructure enhancements on Fifteenth Street between Clay and Susank Road. The City believes that the improvement will promote safety, increase its appeal to potential homebuyers and promote community development. A Letter of Support will be presented.
Other business
Other items on the agenda are a review to assure the five commissioner districts are as compact and equal in population as possible; information on the State 911 Board and the Critical Facility Mapping Grant; Information Technology software purchase; a Solid Waste recycling grant; and purchase of a water source heat pump, replacing one that failed at the courthouse.
