Two generations of Reeds make art history
ryder and taylor reed
Ryder Reed and his father Taylor show their artistic talents.

Great Bend fourth grader Ryder Reed’s artwork was chosen to represent Jefferson Elementary School at the Shawnee County Library in Topeka, making him the second family member chosen for that honor. When his father Taylor was in the 4th grade, his artwork was chosen as well, and he took first place in the state of Kansas overall among fourth graders. His artwork was on display at the Capitol and he got to meet the governor and tour the Capitol.

On a recent trip to Topeka to view the art exhibit, the family drove by the Capitol with Ryder, because he had never seen it.

“We had to give him a quick lesson on government and politics because the Capitol was closed,” said his mother Jamie Reed. There were “tons of protestors with posters” outside.

Twelve student artists from Great Bend USD 428 were selected to showcase their work at the Kansas Art Education Association (KAEA) Youth Art Month exhibition in Topeka. Running from Feb. 24 through March 28 at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, the display featured top-tier student work from across the state.
