A project to expand U.S. 56 to a four-lane roadway from the east city limits of Great Bend to the K-156 junction is in the works. The Barton County Commission will be asked to approve an agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation on future maintenance responsibilities and more when the commission meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the courthouse. The meeting will be livestreamed at http://bit.ly/3J9uae.

The Commission will also consider an engineering firm to hire after County Engineer Barry McManaman retires. When McManaman announced he was retiring earlier this year, that led the county to seek applicants for that position and to release a request for qualifications for an engineering firm. County Administrator Matt Patzner will review the qualification listing as submitted by Kirkham-Michael and Kaw Valley Engineering Inc.

The Barton County Employee Handbook will also be reviewed.

Although subject to change, the following appointments have been scheduled following the close of the agenda meeting:

9:45 a.m.  – Planning Session with Media Consultants.

10 a.m. – Regular Business Discussion with Matt Patzner, County Administrator.

10:30 a.m. – Program Update with Chris Schartz, County Works Director.
