On Wednesday, June 25, at approximately 12:35 p.m., detectives and officers from the Great Bend Police Department responded to a burglary in progress at a residence in the 1200 block of Truman St. Upon officers’ arrival, the owners of the property reported being unable to open their garage door, and that a vehicle unknown to them was parked inside. As officers made entry into the residence, Calvin Jackson Hinz, 41, attempted to flee on foot, but was taken into custody a short distance away.
According to a news release for Police Chief Steve Haulmark, jewelry taken from the residence as well as THC were found on his person. Hinz was arrested for burglary and possession of THC and was booked at the Barton County Jail in lieu of bond.
In an unrelated incident on June 25 at approximately 4:15 p.m., a GBPD officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a reported traffic infraction in the 600 block of Main St. During the stop, K9 Niko was deployed for a free air sniff of the vehicle. After the K9 alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, a search of the vehicle was completed. Inside the vehicle, officers located suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The driver, and only occupant, Chad Teichman, 55, was placed under arrest, and booked in lieu of bond.
