GEARY COUNTY – A Barton County woman was among those injured in a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on I-70 in Geary County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Riley N. Brungardt, 24, Hoisington was driving a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on I-70 near Moritz Road at milepost 311 at approximately 4:40 p.m. when she encountered heavy rain. Brungardt lost control and struck the 2024 Buick Encore driven by Tammy Bevan-Tyler, 63, Overland Park, which was parked on the south shoulder of I-70. The impact pushed the Tyler vehicle into the 2019 Ford Ranger driven by Jake A. Sobonilla, 24, of Fort Riley, which was also parked on the south shoulder.

Brungardt’s and Tyler’s vehicles came to rest in the south ditch. Brungardt was transported by ambulance to Stormont Vail Health-Flint Hills Campus with suspected minor injuries. Tyler and a passenger in the Tyler vehicle, Mark D. Taylor, 60, Olathe, received suspected minor injuries, but were not transported. Sobonilla was not injured.

All four occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, the KHP reported.
