The Kansas Highway Patrol online crash logs report multiple injury accidents due to icy roads and other factors over the weekend. Two area crashes are summarized here:
• A fire truck driven by Dylan Walker, 29, of Wilson was westbound with emergency lights and siren activated when it slid off Interstate 70, 0.25 miles east of K-232 in Ellsworth County, at 10:49 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4. Due to the slick roadway, the truck lost traction and subsequently overturned one-half time and landed on its roof. There were no seat belts installed.
Walker had no apparent injury but a passenger, Taegan Thrasher, 10, of Wilson, was taken to the Ellsworth County Medical Center with a suspected minor injury.
• At 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, Jon M. Spence, 68, from Monument, Colo., was driving a Peterbilt truck westbound on U.S. 50 at Southeast 90th Ave. in Stafford County and lost control due to ice. The vehicle went into the south ditch and then rolled onto its driver’s side. Spence was taken to Stafford County Hospital with a suspected minor injury.
