A man who eluded Great Bend Police when they attempted a traffic stop last Friday was later arrested, Police Chief Steve Haulmark reported. The suspect vehicle was located using the law enforcement camera system that identifies license tags.
The chief said a GBPD officer observed a traffic infraction around 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 31 in the 2200 block of 12th St. When the officer attempted to stop the 2001 Chevy Tahoe in question, “the driver refused to yield and accelerated away from the officer,” Haulmark stated in a news release. “The vehicle was able to elude officers at the time and leave the city limits, but with the use of the FLOCK camera system the vehicle and license plate were identified.”
Officers followed up the investigation and located the unoccupied Tahoe around 4:30 that afternoon in the 300 block of Pine Street.
They located Vince Eric Dandy, 23, walking in the area of the vehicle and determined that the vehicle belonged to him.
“After questioning, Dandy admitted to being the driver of the vehicle and to fleeing from Officers,” the news release stated. He was transported to the Barton County Jail and booked on charges of felony flee and elude. He was released after posting a $5,000 surety bond.
