Jogger hit by vehicle 

A jogger who was hit by a vehicle in the 2200 block of McKinley last Saturday morning was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark said. The accident was reported at 6:14 a.m., about half an hour before sunrise on Aug. 16. Haulmark declined to release additional information out of respect for the female jogger’s privacy.


Smoke detector malfunctions at GBHS

The Great Bend Fire Department dispatched firefighters to Great Bend High School at 5:51 a.m. on Tuesday after a smoke detector malfunctioned. Principal Brock Funke said there was no fire. “We had a smoke detector go bad. When they quit working, it sets off the entire system,” he said.

The Great Bend Emergency Medical Service had seven ambulance runs.

Great Bend firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 8:51 a.m. at Great Bend High School, 2027 Morton, which was determined to be a false alarm. A gas leak/spill was reported at 8:38 p.m. at Sommerset Apartments, 5839 S. 10th St. A gas leak was reported at 8:38 p.m. at Sommerset Apartments, 5839 S. 10th St.; Kansas Gas Service was contacted.  Report of a structure fire at 3:30 p.m. at 341 SW 60 Rd., Great Bend, was canceled en route.

A battery was reported at 11:12 a.m. at The Page, 2920 10th St.

A theft was reported at 11:15 a.m. at Walmart, 2502 10th St.

A burglary not in progress was reported at 12:45 p.m. at Best Western Angus Inn, 3920 10th St. Travis Klima was arrested.

A battery was reported at 3:43 p.m.

A criminal damage was reported at 5:53 p.m. at University of Kansas Health System, 514 Cleveland.

A warrant arrest was executed at 10:40 p.m. at Walmart. Brady Wharton was arrested.

A burglary in progress was reported at 11:18 a.m. at Z’s Liquor Mart, 1906 Main St., Great Bend.

A non-injury crash was reported at 11:52 a.m. at the 3100 block of Railroad Ave., Great Bend.
