At 8:51 p.m. Friday, April 18, Great Bend Police officers arrested a man with outstanding warrants who was hiding inside a closet at 1202 Adams St.
According to Police Chief Steve Haulmark, officers were dispatched to the residence, where the complainant advised that Devon Keith, 23, was inside. Officers received permission to enter the residence to search for Keith, who was subsequently located hiding under a pile of clothing inside of a closet in the rear bedroom. When he was located, Keith actively resisted arrest before he was taken into custody.
Officers also located suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a loaded rifle inside the closet within proximity to Keith. He was transported to the Barton County Jail, where he was booked for three Barton County Felony (no bond) warrants, and three Great Bend Municipal Court warrants, as well as new charges of distribution of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, criminal possession of a firearm, interference with a law enforcement officer and criminal damage. The jail log notes the there were between 3.5 and 100 grams of meth.
Upon review of the new charges, a 20th Judicial District Judge set Keith’s new bond at $500,000, Haulmark stated.
