Stolen firearm found in traffic stop

Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark reports a traffic stop at 1:54 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, led to a drug arrest. A GBPD officer initiated the traffic stop in the 2000 block of Heizer St. and made contact with the driver and occupants of the vehicle.

“During the stop, K9 Neo was deployed for a free air sniff of the vehicle, subsequently indicating to the odor of narcotics,” Haulmark stated in a news release. The back-seat passenger, Christopher Hututchins-Hernandez, 31, “was found to have marijuana on his person. During the subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, as well as a stolen firearm.”

Hutchins-Hernandez was arrested on charges of distribution of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of stolen property, and no drug tax stamp. He was booked into the Barton County Detention Center in lieu of bond.
