ELLSWORTH COUNTY – Two people were injured in a weather-related rollover accident Friday on Interstate 70. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred at 10:55 a.m. on Feb. 14, 2.4 miles east of K-202 in Ellsworth County. An eastbound 2020 Ford Expedition driven by Michael L. Berkgren, 54, of Oakley came upon a slick spot while snow was blowing across the highway. The vehicle entered the median and struck a drain grate, then went airborne, rolled an unknown number of times, and came to rest on its top in the median.
Berkgren, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to Hays Medical Center with what appeared to be serious injuries. Passenger Chelsey Schiltz, 39, also from Oakley, was taken to the hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries. She was wearing a safety restraint.
