Bernetta Ann Oberle, 99, passed away peacefully Jan. 7, 2025, at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend, Kan., with family by her side. Born March 29, 1925, in rural Ellinwood, Kan., Bernetta was the daughter of Peter P. and Anna C. (Straub) Kimpler. She married Andrew F. Oberle on May 20, 1948, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church north of Ellinwood. He passed away Jan., 15, 1997. Bernetta resided in Ellinwood until she moved to Brookdale in 2019.
Bernetta was a member of St. Joseph Church and Altar Society. She was an excellent cook, specializing in homemade sweets.
Bernetta loved flower gardening and crocheting doilies. She was a gifted seamstress and quilt-maker, creating many keepsakes for family and friends. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include children Stephan (Cindy) Oberle, Great Bend, Kan.; Gary (Cheryl) Oberle, Hotchkiss, Colo.; Robert (Torey) Oberle, Topeka, Kan.; and Michael (Lisa) Oberle, Wichita, Kan.; and Cheryl Oberle-Ginther, Hays, Kan.; sister Mary Bate, McPherson, Kan.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Andrew; son-in-law Loren Ginther; siblings Esther Oberle, Florentine Oberle, Victor Kimpler, Roman Kimpler, Katherine “Kate” Feist; and half-siblings Jacob Kimpler, Helen Schulz, and Raymond Kimpler.
Funeral Mass will take place 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will take place Sunday 1-4 p.m. with Altar Society Rosary at 3 p.m. at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Vigil service will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday evening at St. Joseph Church.
