Betty Derine (Sandquist) Clark

SALINA — Betty Derine (Sandquist) Clark, 93, went peacefully to her eternal rest Tuesday, May 13th, 2025, at home with her family by her side. She was born the oldest of six on Sept. 30, 1931, in Doland, South Dakota, to George and Irene (Remily) Sandquist.

She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1950. After graduation, she married the love of her life, Riley D. Clark on June 24th, 1950, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina. They were blessed with 73 years together while raising 17 children and one grandchild. She worked at St. John’s hospital during high school. Upon graduation she married Riley and was a homemaker the rest of her life, including being a nanny to another family after raising her own. Betty was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Cathedral. In addition to her dedication to her family, she was specially devoted to the blessed Mother. Her faith was the inspiration to everyone that knew her.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Riley D. Clark; her mother and father; sisters, Mavis Davis and Corletta McDaneld; daughters Rhonda Cole and Annette Clark; sons-in-law Mike Ziegler and Mark Cole; and grandsons Dane Hamilton and Trevor Rassette. She is survived by her children, Pam Ziegler of Hutchinson; Fr. Dana Clark of Ellis; Debbie (Richard) Earley of Statesboro, Ga.; Tony Clark of Salina; Joe (Rita) Clark of Hutchinson; Mickey Benfield of Salina; Jamie Clark of Hutchinson; Jackie (Mike) Hamilton of Salina; Chris (Kathy) Clark of Salina; Monte Clark of Salina; Teena (Jay) Davies of Reading; Tammy (Monte) Garrison of Great Bend; Aimee Clark of Salina; Terri (Mike) Rassette of Salina; and Sheri (Eric) Winters of Bennington; and granddaughter Kayla of Salina; 42 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 18th with a vigil service at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 19th at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina; burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina. Memorials may be made to the Msgr George Weber and Rhonda Cole Memorial Garden at St. Mary Grade School or to Sacred Heart Junior-Senior High School.
