Dale M. Knop

Dale M. Knop, 83, died on Dec. 29, 2024, at Prairie Eldercare in Overland Park, Kan. He was born in Great Bend on May 11, 1941, to Clinton (C.J.) and Georgia Allene (Bailey) Knop. Dale graduated from Great Bend High School in 1959.

He married Paula Hammeke Anglin at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, on July 19, 1975. He was previously married to Marianne (Newcombe) Isern. A long-time resident of Ellinwood, he was a fourth-generation farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as a Trustee and an Elder over the years, and was a long-time member of the men’s Bible study group. He enjoyed playing snooker and cards with family and friends. Dale, a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the K-State Wildcats, rehashed games with friends over a cup of coffee. Dale showed his love for nature in that he never met an oak tree he didn’t love.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Paula Knop, Ellinwood; sons Mark Knop (Christine), Ellinwood; John Knop, Olathe; Christopher Knop (Jennifer), Ellinwood; daughters Kara Mills (Brady), Colorado Springs, Colo.; Kathy Steiner (Cary), McPherson; Lisa Circle (Mark), Olathe; Audra Richardson (Shawn), Overland Park; and Julie Oberle (Colt), Wichita. Other survivors include 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gene C. Knop. 

Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, January 3rd at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood with Pastor Thomas Thierfelder officiating. Service will be livestreamed on church Facebook page. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 2nd from 1-6 p.m. at Minnis Chapel, Ellinwood, with family present from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church Library or Lutheran Hour Ministries in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
