LaFern C. ‘Fern’ Niedens

LaFern C. ‘Fern’ Niedens, 96, passed away on July 23, 2025, at Medicalodges, Great Bend, Kan. She was born on Jan. 22, 1929, in Barton County, Kan., to Emil and Clara (Nuss) Karst. 

A resident of Great Bend, Fern was head tailor for Brentwood Ltd. for 19 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Fern enjoyed bowling, taking care of her home and yard, growing a fantastic garden, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Niedens and wife Debbie of Great Bend, and Craig Niedens and wife 

Mee-Sun of Grain Valley, Mo.; three grandchildren, Adam Niedens of Great Bend, Cassie Dupuis and husband Brenton of Pawnee Rock, and Joshua Niedens of San Antonio, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Case Niedens, Macey Niedens, and Sarah Niedens; two sisters, Dorothy Rube and Joyce Lust, both of Hoisington; sister-in-law, Loretta Karst of Topeka; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Albert Karst and Gary Karst; infant sister, Vierna Kast; and brothers-in-law, LeRoy Rube and Marvin Lust.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2025, with family receiving guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2025, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, with Reverend Adam Wutka presiding. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorials have been designated to St. Mark Lutheran Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
