Lynette M. Blakesleee

Lynette M. Blakeslee, 97, formerly of rural Great Bend, died Feb. 7, 2025, at Diversicare of Larned, Kan. She was born on Aug. 27, 1927, at rural Seward, Kan., to Bruno and Emma (Weigt) Fischer. On May 29, 1955, she married George W. Blakeslee, Jr. at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church (now Peace Church) in Hudson, Kan. He passed March 22, 2008.

She was a graduate of Emporia State Teacher’s College, where Lynette went on to teach school in rural Stafford County, Ellinwood, Larned, Germany and Great Bend. She was also a farm wife. Lynette was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Great Bend and was a member of Central Kansas Quilt Guild and Pilot Club. She was great at cooking, sewing, and gardening, and cherished time with family.

Survivors include two sons, Kent Blakeslee and wife Julie of Ellinwood, and Darrel Blakeslee of Dumas, Texas; daughter, Karen Blakeslee of Manhattan; two grandchildren, Eric Blakeslee and wife Mackenzie of Ellinwood, and Kyle Blakeslee and wife Marissa of Wichita; great grandchild, Kassidy Blakeslee, and another on the way; sister, Leona Fischer of Hutchinson; and sisters-in-law, Shirley Fischer of Seward, Juanita Fischer of Stafford, Norma Blakeslee of St. John, and Helen Boyd of Wichita. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Elton Fischer.

Visitation will take place from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, with family receiving guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Munz presiding. Interment will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in St. John. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to First Congregational United Church of Christ or Barton County 4-H, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
