The Bible says that at any given time, there are 36 righteous people living on Earth. I truly believe my mother, Margaret Johnson, was one of them. Anyone who ever crossed her path benefited from knowing her.
Mom picked up the reins of Electra when her husband died and ran the company from 1979 - 2007. She was a very successful businesswoman, but her business acumen was a small part of who Mom was.
Mom gave and gave and then she gave some more. I’m not talking just charitable giving, although she did plenty. I’m talking, Margaret Johnson, gave money directly to people that went to Mexico and rescued young American girls who were there being forced into the human sex trafficking. One New Years Eve, during a blizzard, we were in a Denver hotel with Mom and saw a young man with a laptop, no bags, begging reception not to kick him out. His parents had already done so and he had no place to go. We went on to our room and I saw Mom call the Front Desk and have them book a room for him that freezing cold night.
That was quintessential Mom.
She knew the little things matter. An expert in creating the details that made life special, Mom always looked out for those no one else cared about. Her little flower garden in Ellinwood, Kan. became a beautiful sanctuary for anyone who just needed to talk.
Never once, in my whole life, was she too busy to talk to me or anyone else about anything at any time. I know many people will feel her absence with heavy hearts and what she would want is for us to pick up the kindness baton and carry it on.
Margaret Johnson was preceded in death by her husband and the father of her children, Bobby F Johnson. She will leave behind Michael Johnson and Vicki Godal as well as her grandchildren, Anastasha Godal, Aminna Johnson and Jett Johnson.
