Marilyn Ann Deason, 79, passed away May 2, 2025, at her home in Great Bend, Kan. She was born Feb. 26, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Harvey) Brack. Marilyn married James Arthur “Jim” Deason Sept. 5, 1965, in Great Bend. He passed away April 11, 2002.

Marilyn, a long-time resident of Great Bend, had worked for USD 428 in the food service department for 46 years, retiring in 2021. Most of her career was spent at the Central Kitchen and serving at various area schools. She was a member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed sewing, baking, and cherished time spent with family, especially babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren.    

Survivors include her four children, Jame Allen and husband Rick of Great Bend, Sheree Marshall and husband Larry of Great Bend, Nelson Deason and wife Katrina of Great Bend, and Vincent Deason and wife Christina of Great Bend; and one brother, Dave Smith and wife Sheila of Goodland, Kan.

Marilyn was blessed with 14 grandchildren, Ashley McClanahan, Richard Allen Jr., Ona Marshall, Shatlyn Thomas, Dariane Schridde, Malcolm Deason, Brandon Deason, Cody Deason, Derrick Deason, JC Deason, Rhys Froetschner, Kaitlyn Froetschner, Shelbi Ibarra and Aaron Deason; and 35 great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Jim; and grandson, Cody Deason.  

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Josh Leu presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be designated to the Marilyn Deason Expense Fund or First Christian Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, KS  67530.
