WICHITA - Marilyn Ann Schartz, 89, passed away December 15, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born on February 25, 1932, at Chula, Mo. to Harry “Mac” & Grace (Tate) McDowell. She married Wade Robert Schartz on September 15, 1951, at Great Bend. This union was blessed with eight children.
Marilyn, a resident of Wichita since 1998 coming from Great Bend, was a former member of the Petroleum Club, Prince of Peace Parish and the Altar Society, and had worked for Goetz Realty. During her high school days, she was the drum majorette and at the University of Kansas, was a member of Alpha Delta Phi Sorority. Marilyn enjoyed golf, shopping at the D.A.V., playing BINGO, bowling and KU basketball. Above all, she was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, especially taking great pride in picking just the perfect Christmas presents for her loved ones.
Survivors include, four sons, Tony Schartz, Kyle Schartz and wife Liz all of Great Bend, Ty Schartz and wife Janice of Wichita and Lane Schartz and wife Cheryl of Springhill; three daughters, Cathy Steiner and husband Dan of Stillwell, Cheri Claphan of Wichita, and Diane Delaney and husband Dan of Great Bend; a brother, John McDowell of The Village, Fla.; twenty-three grandchildren, Ryan Steiner, Clint Steiner, Tara Terella, Brian Schartz, Erin Schartz, Brad Schartz, Chelsea Wall, Kerri Coleman, Trisha Snyder, Brent Claphan, Darren Claphan, Lindsay Schartz, Clay Delaney, Tonya Martinez, Trey Schartz, Jeff Ruble, Tim Ruble, Sam Schartz, Alex Schartz, Eric Schartz, Taylor Schartz, Troy Schartz, and Trent Schartz; thirty-nine great grandchildren; and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Debbie Schartz; a daughter in law, Patti Schartz; a brother, Carson McDowell; a sister in law, Donna McDowell; and a great granddaughter, Kylie.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with memory sharing at 5:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 20, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to BCC Foundation to benefit Tony & Edna Schartz Scholarship Fund or D.A.V., in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
