Nancy Soeken, age 76, passed away in her sleep on Oct. 6, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society long term care facility located in Hutchinson, Kan.
Nancy was born on March 22, 1949, in Great Bend, Kan., to Albert H. and Viola L. (Knop) Soeken. She spent her childhood on a farm just outside Claflin, Kan., and graduated from Claflin High School. She later resided in Great Bend.
Nancy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. Her life was grounded in her faith, and she was a participant in many church groups.
Outside of church, Nancy’s hobbies included listening to country music, gardening, and stamp collecting. Her life was further enriched by her pet cats. Nancy was also active in support of mental health for everyone. She was a member of NAMI and loved caring for and helping others. In more recent years, she loved receiving cards from her friends and family and posting them on her bulletin board where she could enjoy looking at them.
Nancy is survived by her siblings, Marilyn Buczinski of Great Bend and Merle Soeken of Mountain Home, Ark.; nieces, Tonia Navarro of Hutchinson, Terese Beal (Wade) of Harper, Tiffany Steinle (Brent) of Ankeny, Iowa, Jessica Runnels of Wichita, Lisa Darling of Lowell, Mich.; nephews, John Buczinski of Rozel, Eric Soeken of Mountain Home, Ark., and Aaron Soeken of Katy, Texas; and many grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Viola Soken; her sister, Donna Strube; and her brothers-in-law, Art Strube and Larry Buczinski.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Jay Welshonse presiding. Inurnment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Claflin. In lieu of flowers, memorials are designated to Trinity Lutheran Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
