Paul Frederick Berscheidt, 83, passed away Oct. 17, 2025, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kan. He was born on June 30, 1942, in Ellinwood, Kan., to Frederick and Pauline (Kimpler) Berscheidt. On June 23, 1962, he married Trella Ann Scheuerman in Ellinwood. She passed on Sept. 12, 2019.
A lifetime area resident, Paul held many positions working with people. He started as a retail associate at Sears, then moved on to being a manager of two Drummer Boy locations, then a manager at Ozark Sam’s. Paul, along with Trella, became the owners and operators of Paul’s Family Restaurant, before he became the head of security at Fuller Brush. He shifted back to being an assistant manager at Gibson’s, before going into sales at Abbey’s Best Buy Carpet Outlet, where he retired. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima, Kansas Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and Central Kansas Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Paul was a collector of barbequing equipment, and enjoyed spending time with his dog, Sweetie.
Survivors include daughter, Kimberly Schenk and husband Greg of Great Bend; seven grandchildren, Craig Berscheidt and fiancé Anne, Matthew Schenk and girlfriend Kelci, Aaron Berscheidt and wife Kayla, Jason Berscheidt and wife Liz, Jessica Kelly and husband Cody, Sarah Smith and husband Jace, and Blake Berscheidt; seven great grandchildren, Colson, Chloe and Callan Kelly, Emma, Layla, and Noah Smith, and Ella Berscheidt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife; son, Michael Berscheidt; parents; brother, Gordon Berscheidt; and sister, Connie Kennedy and husband Kale.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will follow at Lakin Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, with family receiving guests from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials have been designated to the Central Kansas Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
