January marks School Board Appreciation Month, providing an opportunity to recognize the commitment and service of the locally elected USD 428 Board of Education members. These leaders play a crucial role in shaping the future of education for the Great Bend community.

Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education (BOE) members include Jacquie Disque, president (serving 2018-2026); Aaron Emerson, vice president (2020-2027); Chad Burroughs (2022-2026); Deanna Essmiller (2018-2026); Karen Lindberg, Randy Wetzel, and Sara Williams, each serving from 2024-2027.

“Our board members are advocates for public education, demonstrating thoughtful leadership and a commitment to ensuring all students receive a high-quality education,” said Khris Thexton, USD 428 superintendent. “Their service impacts not just our schools but the future of our entire community.”

School board members dedicate countless hours to attending meetings, analyzing reports, and engaging in policy discussions to support approximately 2,900 students and 700 staff members across 10 district buildings in Great Bend. 

Thexton expressed gratitude for the Board’s engagement, stating, “We are fortunate to have a team that values connection with the community and advocates for our students at local and state levels.”
