JUNCTION CITY — The Great Bend Bat Cats rallied for an 8-5 Jayhawk Collegiate League victory over the Junction City Brigade after hitting three homers and losing a 4-0 lead.
The Bat Cats (7-3, 7-1 Jayhawk) entertain the Hutchinson Monarchs (7-1, 6-1 Jayhawk) in a battle for first place Friday.
Sparkplug Deacon Pomeroy singled home Peanut Brazzle to ignite a 3-run ninth inning. T.J. Shaw singled home Pomeroy and Elias Leon for an 8-5 lead. Brazzle singled to start the rally.
Great Bend graduate Owen Kaiser (1-0) threw 21/3 shutout innings to earn the victory. Ryland Khan earned a save by recording the final out.
Brazzle led the Bat Cats with three hits and three runs scored.
Leon singled home Brazzle in the first inning. Carson Umphres homered and Brazzle's 2-run homer scored Joey Marker for a 4-0 lead after two innings.
The Brigade scored four fourth-inning runs keyed by an error and three walks. Ian Luce scored on a bases-loaded walk. Former Bat Cat Kyler Horsman singled home Eric Bradicich nd Brayden Harpole. Gus Keller scored on an error.
Shaw's sixth-inning homer was matched by Keller's seventh-inning double that scored Harpole for a 5-5 tie.
