ARKANSAS CITY — Cowley College's women outscored the Barton Cougars 16-4 in the final minutes for a 75-59 Jayhawk Conference basketball victory.

Mary Akinde sparked the Cougars (14-16, 12-12) with 18 points and 19 rebounds for her 13th double/double. Regina Donanu added 17 points with 4 of 6 long range accuracy. 

The No. 7 seed Cougars play Cloud County (14-16) in the Region 6 Tournament at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Fleske Fieldhouse. The winner plays at Dodge City March 10.

Trailing 34-29 at halftime, Barton remained within reach into the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to four midway through the final frame before a decisive 16-4 Cowley run over the final six minutes proved to be the difference.

Cowley closed the first half with a 7-2 spurt for a 34-29 halftime lead.

The Cougars hung within 45-41 on 3-pointers from Donanu and Kodi Greer and a Keyona Hall 3-point play. The Tigers rallied to lead 53-46 after three quarters.

Akinde and Spray scored to spark the Cougars' final push within 59-55. Cowley closed with a 16-4 run to complete the season sweep.

Barton shot 32% (20-of-62) and 8-of-23 from beyond the arc. The Cougars held a 16-2 advantage in second-chance points behind 16 offensive rebounds. Cowley scored 18 points off turnovers and dominated the paint 28-4.

The Tigers (15-15, 11-13 Jayhawk) were led by Mallory Jackson scored 18 points and Aniyah Burney added 16 points. Saliyah Henerson-Johnson (12) and Megan Simon (10) hit double figures.
