Dodge City drops slumping Cougars in twin bill

DODGE CITY – Dodge City swept the Barton Cougars 12-2, 12-2 Sunday to drop the Cougars to fifth place in the Jayhawk Conference. The slumping Cougars (26-11, 13-7) have lost five of six games. The Cougars have scored 12 runs in the five losses.

DODGE CITY 12, BARTON 2 (G1) – Dodge City delivered seven extra-base hits to run-rule the Cougars.

Dodge City’s Max Towchik doubled, tripled and drove home three runs. Nick Gray doubled and homered and drove home four runs. Nathan Harmon and Juan Rivera drove in runs. Pitcher Brian Hallum (6-2) struck out three batters.

Barton pitcher Bradley Feezer (3-3) had hard luck as Cougar errors and an interference call led to four unearned runs.

Robby Bolin singled home Wyatt Yetter. Owen Clyne singled home Bolin.

DODGE CITY 12, BARTON 2 (G2) – The good news? The Cougars turned a pair of double plays.

odge City pounded the Cougars for a trio of home runs. Nick Gray homered and drove home three runs.

Carter Olson and Cooper Schneider each homered and drove in two runs. Jordan Rodriguez drove home two runs.

Bolin scored on Clyne's sixth-inning groundout. Bolin scored on Brock Howard’s eighth-inning sacrifice fly.

Cougar pitcher Ethan Minaker (3-1) worked four innings.

Cougars split with Dodge City

Barton’s bats went silent in a 3-0 setback after beating Dodge City 7-3 in Thursday’s Jayhawk Conference baseball opener at Lawson Biggs Field.

COUGARS 7, DODGE CITY 3 (G1) — The Cougars took advantage of five Dodge City errors for a 7-3 victory.

Robby Bolin doubled and scored on a first-inning error. Bolin scored a third-inning run on another Dodge City error.

Dodge City scored a pair of fourth-inning runs for a 2-2 tie. Grant Nottlemann scored on an error and Ayden Hadley scored on a balk for a 4-2 lead.

Bolin capped a 3-hit day with an RBI single in a 3-run sixth inning.

Reece Hemmerling (6-1) struck out six and yielded five hits. Barton reliever Kyler Horsman delivered a 5-4-3 double-play to stop Dodge City’s comeback.

DODGE CITY 3, COUGARS 0 (G2) – Bolin and Clyne led off with singles, but Dodge City starter Bryce Chambers (6-3), but worked out of trouble with a double play.

Dodge City scored single runs in the second, third and fifth inning.

Barton pitcher Aidan Sowers (4-1) worked five innings. Colton Wahlstrom and Preston Golden worked scoreless outings out of the bullpen.
