Great Bend's Wagner an NCAA runner-up

PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The memorable ride for Great Bend's Paige Wagner for Wichita State's women's bowling team finished with a NCAA runner-up finish for the Shockers.

No. 1 Jacksonville State, Fla. downed Wichita State 4-1 in Saturday's nationally televised Baker match. The Shockers (79-36) handed the Gamecocks (103-10) two of their 10 losses.

After averaging 234 against Vanderbilt in the losers bracket finals, the Shockers struggled in the final showdown posting a 195.6 Baker average.

Against the Gamecocks, WSU struck first, winning 216-208, but Jacksonville State took control from there with four consecutive game victories to secure the title: 246-213, 240-196, 185-169, 191-184.

Wagner fired games of 245, 210 and 161 in her three individual games.

The Gamecocks sent the Shockers to the losers bracket with a 1,165-1,049 win and a 1,198-1,162 Baker decision.

Wichita State downed Arkansas State keyed by a 300 game from Aleesha Oden. WSU won the opening match 1,162-949 and the Baker match 1,188-1,030.

The Shockers snapped a 5-match losing streak to Vanderbilt that started with a 1,106-1,027 setback in the opening match.
